Summer Reading 2011

That's my bedside table. And that's Magne and Walroo. Magne and Walroo are feeling a bit put out, due to the ENORMOUS DOUBLE PILE OF BOOKS ON THEIR TURF. Sorry, guys! But hopefully by the end of the summer it will be all gone!
I started putting my most urgent "to reads" on my bedside table last year, which led to last year's Summer Reading post, in which I attempted to read an insane number of books (and mostly succeeded). Well, I've decided to do it again this year!
I put my start date as June 1st, but this is the 3rd, and I'm a bit slow with the blogging obviously, so I have already read two: OLD MAN'S WAR by John Scalzi, and SUPERMAN: EARTH ONE by J. Michael Straczynski. I am also halfway through DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth.
And now, the list of books I will be reading by Labor Day (September 5th), in no particular order:
ANATHEM - Neal Stephenson
BEAUTY QUEENS - Libba Bray
INSATIABLE - Meg Cabot
SERVANT OF A DARK GOD - John Brown
A RING OF ENDLESS LIGHT - Madeleine L'Engle
PRECIOUS DRAGON - Liz Williams
HOW TO SAVE A LIFE - Sara Zarr
DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE - Laini Taylor
HARD MAGIC - Larry Correia
CITY OF FIRE - Laurence Yep
CITY OF ICE - Laurence Yep
BLACKOUT - Connie Willis
ABANDON - Meg Cabot
ENTWINED - Heather Dixon
THE LAST LITTLE BLUE ENVELOPE - Maureen Johnson
WITHER - Lauren De Stephano
THE PAPER ROSE CLUB - Jennifer Youngblood & Sandra Poole
THE MALTESE FALCON - Dashiell Hammett
LIESL & PO - Lauren Conrad
CATE OF THE LOST COLONY - Lisa Klein
DANIEL DERONDA - George Eliot
THE MIDNIGHT PALACE - Carlos Ruiz Zafon
BOY 21 - Matthew Quick
THE CLOCKWORK THREE - Matthew Kirby
EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS - A. S. King
ROT & RUIN - Jonathan Maberry
DOWN THE MYSTERLY RIVER - Bill Willingham
GUARDIANS OF THE TEBAH STICK - Frank L. Cole (This has a new title, which escapes me. I have the Black Ops ARC . . . )
HAUNTING VIOLET - Alyxandra Harvey
THE FULL CUPBOARD OF LIFE - Alexander McCall Smith
IN THE COMPANY OF CHEERFUL LADIES - Alexander McCall Smith
BLUE SHOES AND HAPPINESS - Alexander McCall Smith
THE GOOD HUSBAND OF ZEBRA DRIVE - Alexander McCall Smith
SHUT OUT - Kody Keplinger
WINTER TOWN - Stephen Emond
TECHNOSAURS NO. 1 - Kevin Wasden
SCHLOCK MERCENARY: THE SCRAPYARD OF INSUFFERABLE ARROGANCE - Howard Tayler
SCHLOCK MERCENARY: THE BLACKNESS BETWEEN - Howard Tayler
Some of these books aren't out yet, but are ARCs that I was lucky enough to score in my journeys. And, to my embarrassment, some of these books are ARCs that I got a while ago and the books are out . . . I'm easily distracted by shiny new books, all right?!
This is 38 books . . . Eep. Also, my book club is reading DANDELION WINE, MAIRELON THE MAGICIAN and THE MAGICIAN'S WARD this summer, three of my favorite books. Shall I reread them? Shall I?
And what will YOU be reading this summer?

That's quite a pile! I will be reading a huge amount of books too ( I hope). The one I am most looking forward to, for the summer anyway, is Texas Gothic by Rosemary Clement-Moore. As for rereading, YES!! I just read Mairelon the Magician and The Magician's Ward myself two weeks ago. I knew I loved them, but readin g them again reminded me how much and why!

Not that many books, that's for sure. But I really hope to finish the Enchanted Forest Chronicles by Patricia C. Wrede, read the next Sookie Stackhouse book, the last Forest of Hands and Teeth book, the new Heist Society book, and finally read a Sarah Dessen book.

'Entwined' was REALLY good. I was a rettelling of the twelve dancing princesses, though no where near as good as 'Princess of the Midnight Ball'. I got it for easter!(\___/)

I own 'The Clockwork Three', but have not read it yet.

Um, yes! You should definitely reread Mairelon the Magician and the Magician's Ward. Two of my FAVORITE books. Other than yours, of course :)

I think that you will really enjoy Wither. It's a thinker. I really enjoyed A Ring of Endless Light when I was in high school. For some reason, I really related to that book. Also, Liesl and Po is written by Lauren Oliver. :)

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I forgot to say this!!!! In 'The Clockwork Three', they mention East 0f the Sun, West of the Moon!!!! The girl, Hannah, tells her father she was "reading the story of a girl. She traveled east of the sun and west of the moon to save her prince." I just thought that, as author of one of the best rettellings of this story (and surprisingly, there are a few) you would like to know this!

I'm in the middle of the Farsala Trilogy by Hilari Bell right now and just finished Land Keep by J. Scott Savage. More books that I have been reading are on my blog, http://need2read9.blogspot.com/. Ilove fairy tale retellings-my favourites are Princess of the Midnight Ball, Princess of Glas, and the Once Upon a Time Series. Entwined is another great one. I have read at least four retellings of the Twelve Dancing Princess and Princess of the Midnight Ball is my favourite. One of them was called The Thirteenth Princess and it was pretty much a copy of your Princess of the Midnight Ball. No matter how many books I read, I'm sure Princess of the Midnight Ball will always be my favourite. Oh, by the way, when is the next Princess book coming out and what will it be called?
