How much writing?
Alert blog-reader Melinda asked how much time I spend writing every day. This varies, depending on how long my 2 year old will nap. Sometimes he naps for more than 2 hours, which is fabulous. I don't write solid for the whole time, being too easily distracted by the internet or other time wasters, but I try to write at least 1,000 words, or if I'm editing, I try to do at least 40 pages. She also said that Shannon Hale's wonderful "River Secrets" was on her Best Of list, which makes me blush. I can't believe I forgot Shannon's book for my list. I loved "River Secrets". Shannon's writing is so beautiful, I'm just in awe of her.

If you haven't picked them up yet, two of the best new books in 2006 (in my opinion) were Octavian Nothing by M.T. Anderson and The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. Both amazing.
